Mumbai: The decision to cancel the CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2021 was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The decision to cancel the exams was taken in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation across the country. It was stated that the holding of the exams may risk the health of the students, teachers and staff members.
A presentation was given by the CBSE officials in the meeting on the broad discussion held and the views of all the stakeholders, including State governments.
The press release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) read, “In view of the uncertain conditions due to COVID and the feedback obtained from various stakeholders, it was decided that Class XII Board Exams would not be held this year. It was also decided that CBSE will take steps to compile the results of class XII students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.”
It further added, “The PM said that the Covid situation is a dynamic situation across the country. While the numbers are coming down in the country and some states are managing the situation through effective micro-containment, some states have still opted for a lockdown. Students, parents and teachers are naturally worried about the health of the students in such a situation. The PM said that students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation.”
PM Modi said that the decision to cancel the Class 12 Board Exams is in the interest of the students.
The ambiguity related to the Class 12 Board exams 2021 was causing unease among the teachers, students and their parents. He also said that in this pandemic situation, the safety of the students is most important.
He also asked the CBSE officials to ensure that the results of Class 12 Board Exam 2021 should be prepared as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner. However, if some students wish to appear for the exams, CBSE will provide them with this option once the situation normalizes.
