The COVID-19 pandemic has badly affected the normal functioning of schools and colleges. Several states are trying to restore some normalcy while ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

Mumbai: The Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the lives of people across the world. Everything from jobs to the economy has been badly affected. One of the most badly impacted segments has been educational institutions. While the rest of the industries are slowly resuming their businesses, schools and colleges have not been able to function at pre-COVID levels. Let us look at the state-wise situation of the schools and colleges.

Maharashtra Schools Re-opening

Earlier, it was announced that all schools (for class 9-12) will resume across entire Maharashtra from today. However, later the final decision was left with local authorities who could better access the local situation at the district level. So, schools will not reopen from today in districts of Mumbai, Pune city, Nashik, and Aurangabad city.

Gujarat Schools Re-opening Postponed

Schools and colleges across Gujarat were supposed to re-open from November 23, 2020. However, the rising number of COVID positive patients post the festival season forced the authorities to delay the re-opening. The government had impost a two-day lockdown over the weekend Ahmedabad and a night curfew has been imposed in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.

Karnataka Schools Re-opening

Karnataka has been one of the few states who did not declare reopening of schools from November 23, 2020. The state authorities will conduct a high-level meeting to assess the present situation of the state will be assessed before making any significant decision about re-opening of schools in Karnataka.

Delhi Schools Re-opening

Delhi has been one of the worst-hit states with COVID pandemic. A few months ago, Home Minister Amit Shah had to step-in to bring the situation under control. However, the situation has again gone out of hand with over 7,000 cases being reported daily in the national capital. Schools are likely to remain shut until December 31, 2020.

Goa Schools Re-opening

Goa has been one of the few states that have managed to successfully reopen schools so far. Schools for students appearing for board examinations resumed from November 21 amidst strict COVID-19 guidelines. The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) had earlier announced that 30 per cent syllabus would be reduced for the present academic year.

Rajasthan Schools Re-opening

The government in Rajasthan had also announced the reopening of schools. However, the rising number of cases forced the Gehlot government to roll-back the decision. Certain districts in Rajasthan were badly affected during the first-wave of the virus. The schools are now set to re-open from November 30, 2020, as per the latest update. Odisha Schools Re-opening

The state of Odisha was the first state in the country to announce the closure of schools till the end of the year. The schools in Odisha are poised to remain close until December 31, 2020. The decision to re-open the schools might be taken based on the number of cases by the end of December.
