Gujarat State: Education Department to formulate the SOPs for schools and colleges

The Gujarat education Minister, Bhupendra Singh Chudasama, has urged the officials of the education department to formulate the SOPs. The state government plans to re-open the schools and colleges. The officials are consulting the various stakeholders of the educational institutions. However, the final decision will be taken by the State Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani.
Mumbai: The Gujarat Education department will be formulating a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) before it takes a final decision regarding the re-opening of schools and colleges in Gujarat state. The students and the teachers will need to follow the SOPs looking at the coronavirus outbreak in the world.
On 5th November, Bhupendra Singh Chudasama, Education Minister of Gujarat, conducted a meeting with the officials of the education department on an urgent basis. He urged them to formulate the SOPs for all the educational institutions, schools and colleges in the state.
He told the reporters in Gandhi Nagar that, “As of now, the state government is planning to open schools from standards 9 to 12, colleges as well as universities, though a final decision on the issue is pending. To reopen schools from standards 9 to 12 and colleges, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had asked my department to prepare SOPs. I had convened an urgent meeting in this regard and asked my officials to prepare SOPs. After consulting various stakeholders, we will finalise SOPs in the next 2 to 3 days.”
The vice-chancellors of different universities and people associated with the management of schools were referred to as stakeholders by him. The officials of the education department will have a discussion with them through video conferencing for the formulation of the SOPs. However, the final decision on re-opening the institutions will be taken by the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister after the discussions are finished.
The Gujarat state government will also decide whether to re-open the schools physically for Classes 1 to 8 or not. Since lockdown classes are conducted online.
