Mumbai, Maharashtra: According to an update on the IIT Bhubaneswar website, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar. The agreement is for collaborative research and academic interaction among the scientists and faculty at both the institutes to improve the overall quality of healthcare via the application of technology.
The MU was signed by Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar and Prof. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar in the presence of the Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India. The minister also interacted with Directors of several central institutes.
This agreement will allow both the institutes to share tools and knowledge while creating a platform for interdisciplinary research to improve healthcare facilities in India. The Union Minister said that he was hopeful about a positive outcome from this collaboration. He stressed that the gap between technical and medical institutions needed to be bridged. He also requested both the institutes to keep him apprised of the progress.
The Directors of both IIT and AIIMS, Bhubaneswar were happy about the collaboration and spoke in support of the same. While the IIT Director seemed optimistic about developing the institute’s competence in bio-engineering, probiotics, and biomedical engineering, the AIIMS Director believed that this collaboration will give AIIMS a technological edge.
By the end of the programme, teams from both the institutes deliberated on the ways in which they could take this collaboration to a new level while focusing on the best interests of the society.
