Mumbai, Maharashtra: Speaking at a virtual conclave on ‘School Education in 21st century’, PM Narendra Modi confirmed that the new National Education Policy will be implemented by 2022.

The Prime Minister ensures that this is not the end but the beginning and everyone including students, parents, and teachers must ensure to take up the NEP effectively. NEP 2020 will be a means for fulfilling the new aspirations and hopes of a new India, he added.

Similar to the drafting process, the implementation process of NEP will also include taking suggestions from all the stakeholders. Around 15 lakh teachers submitted their suggestions at the mygov portal on the implementation of NEP.

The NEP aims to make the youth of the country prepared for the future. Further, PM explained that the new NEP is designed to reduce the syllabus and shift the focus on fundamental learning.

He also added that the new NEP will take India from its mark oriented to learning-oriented education. Thus, a new curriculum will be adopted throughout the country to ensure an integrated, interdisciplinary, fun-based learning experience for every student.

A major change that the NEP will bring to the curriculum structure is that it will change from 10+2 to 5+3+4 curriculum structure. Moreover, students will get the free will to choose subjects of their choice which will prevent watertight disciplines.

Stating the reason behind this, the PM said that one of the main reasons behind the dropout ratio is that students do not get the freedom to choose their own subjects. That is why the new NEP aims to change this.

Clearing the air regarding the debate on the mother tongue aspect, PM Modi said that focusing on the mother tongue won’t stop students from learning an international language. They will get the choice to learn global languages including English, but will also learn the local languages of India.
