North East Delhi: Violence stricken area in Delhi has caused schools to be shut and CBSE board exams to be postponed. All private and government schools will be closed for the day today, i.e, 26th February 2020. Class 10th and 12th CBSE board exams are also delayed due to the distress in the region. These exams were scheduled for today to be taken in over 86 centers across the region.
Why are the CBSE Board exams postponed?
The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, announced on Monday that all government and private schools will remain closed in distressed areas. This has been announced due to the violent activities that broke out over the amended Citizenship law in the Northeast district of Delhi. CBSE made this decision after a directive from Delhi High Court arrived asking the board to either reschedule the board exams or move the exam centres out of the violence struck region to ensure the safety of the students appearing for the exams.
All schools closed in the region, internal exams postponed too:
Following the directive from CBSE, both private and government schools postponed all the internal exams scheduled on 25th and 26th February 2020. This decision was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister. Schools will remain shut today in the North East Delhi region.
What is the distress about?
The distress is caused by the anti-CAA and pro-CAA groups allegedly clashing in the Jaffarabad area of New Delhi. As the protest turned violent and things got out a hand, police were called in and Section 144 was implemented in the area. As per reports received by now, 13 people have lost their lives and 150 injured as of today.
