Students felicitated at the 40th IIT (ISM) Convocation

- Around 1100 out of 1988 students who passed out of IIT (ISM) attended the convocation

Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) or IIT (ISM) awarded degrees to hundreds of students during its third convocation (40th convocation for the erstwhile ISM) at the Penman Auditorium in Dhanbad on December 21, 2019. Out of the 1988 students who passed out of the institute, around 1100 students attended the ceremony.
58 students were awarded the gold medal, 17 were given silver medals, and 20 students received sponsored medals. This year, a new medal was introduced – the President’s Gold Medal to felicitate the highest-scoring student after being selected through the IIT-JEE Advanced Exam. This medal was given to Abhishek Chattopadhyay – B.Tech Computer Science Engineering.
The convocation was held in three sessions. ONGC Chairman, Shashi Shankar was the Chief Guest. Further, Rajiv Shekhar, the Director of IIT (ISM) and D. D. Mishra – the Chairman of the Board of Governors also attended the ceremony. The Chief Guest urged the students to look at newer technologies and stressed the opportunities in nanotechnology, data analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
The Director of IIT (ISM) presented an annual report that included international collaborations with Politecnico di Milano, Italy, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Portugal, and the University of Slovakia. The institute also became a member of the In-European Network of 19 technical education institutions that collaborate via academic activities and research.
All gold medallists took the podium and spoke about their role models, dreams, and offered some pearls of wisdom. Abhishek Chattopadhyay, the President’s Gold Medal winner said that developing social relations was as important as academic excellence. He is currently working with Amazon India, Hyderabad.
