Mumbai: The Tripura State Government has announced that it is planning to reopen schools and colleges from December 1, 2020. The Corona Virus pandemic forced educational institutions to opt for the online mode of education. However, things seem to be returning to some normalcy for students in some states including Tripura. The State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath confirmed that full-fledged classes for students will be resumed gradually.

It is important to note that only Classes 10th and 12th will be reopened and all other classes will still continue with the online medium of education. However, all government degree colleges and technical institutions will also resume classes on 1st December. The education minister confirmed to the media that the decision to reopen the classes has been taken in a meeting, but the pandemic situation will be monitored and a final call taken in a few weeks.

The decision to reopen the schools and colleges will have to be ratified in a meeting to be held on November 27, 2020. The COVID 19 is an evolving situation and the final call will be taken considering the safety of students, teachers, and staff. The Tripura Government has also asked educational institutions to allow students only after written parental consent as per the Central Government’s guidelines. Written consent of the parent is mandatory for students to attend in-person classes.

The reopening of the school and colleges will take place only with strict adherence to the COVID guidelines. Tripura Education Director UK Chakma said that all educational institutions have been asked to follow the COVID guidelines and take precautionary measures. These would include thermal scanning of students, teachers, and staff, mandatory use of masks, sanitisation, and social distancing.

While the educational institutions might open from 1st December, the emphasis still remains on adopting the online mode of education. The pandemic is expected to be here for a few more months and employing technology could ensure that education of students does not suffer.
