UP Board Exams: Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMPS) confirmed that 56.07 lakh students have registered for the 10th and 12th std examination. This registration observed by the UPMPS this year is significantly lower as compared to the last two years.
Neena Srivastava, the chairman of the UP Board, said that a fall of 1,69,980 in the number of students appearing from 10th std and 18,658 from 12th std, with a total of 1,88,678 fewer registrations as compared to last year could be seen.
In the previous session, 57,95,756 students registered for board exams as compared to this year indicating a fall of around 3.5 percent. The fall in the number of students registering for examination shows the efforts of the board to carry out the examination process fairly, she added. In 2018, the number of students registering for 10th and 12th Std board examinations was 66,39,268.
According to a board official, the dip in the number of students registering for the board exam is due to the strict measures implemented by the board for conducting the exam. CCTV cameras in every centre, voice-recording, and arresting people involved in cheating were few measures implemented by the board in 2017. The number of students walking out of the examinations was 5,35,494 which included 1,32,475 students of class 12th and 4,03,019 students of class 10th.
The online allotment process has resulted in a fall in the number of examination centres. The number of examination centres in 2018 and 2019 was 8,549 and 8,354 respectively, as compared to 7,784 in 2020. The UP Board has released the timetable for the 10th board examination, and the date of commencement of the exam is from February 18, 2020.
