NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 10
This chapter you will learn about visualizing solid shapes, views of 3d-shapes, mapping space and faces, edges and vertices. Let us now discuss the subtopics covered in this chapter.
Ex. 10.1 – Introduction
In this, you will learn about the concept of 2-D shapes like triangle, square, etc which have length and breadth, a 3-D object like cubes, cylinders, cones, spheres, etc which have length, breadth, height.
Ex. 10.2 – Views of 3D-Shapes
In this, you learn the concept of the 3-D shapes like cubes, cylinders, cones, spheres, etc and its different view from different sides i.e. the top view, front view, and side view and draw them on paper.
Ex. 10.3 – Mapping Space Around Us
In this you learn to represent different objects or place on a map at a particular scale and read a map by using the symbol of the objects, symbols are used to depict the different objects or places, maps involve a scale which is fixed for a particular map. A map depicts the location of a particular object/place in relation to other objects or places.
Ex. 10.4 – Faces, Edges, and Vertices
In this, you learn about the faces, edges, and vertices of the 3D polygons, prism, pyramids, polyhedron, types of the polyhedron, finding faces, edges and vertices of the polyhedron by Euler’s formula
Some questions from NCERT SOlutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 10
Q.1. Can a polyhedron have 10 faces, 20 edges, and 15 vertices?
Solutions: Euler’s formula says,
Here, F = 10
V = 15 E= 20 So, F+V – E= 10 + 15 – 20 = 5 + 2
So, such type of polyhedron is not possible.
Q.2. Using Euler’s formula find the unknown.
F+6+ 12 + 2
F+V=E+2 5+V = 9+2 V = 6
F+V=E+2 20+ 12 = E+2
