Some questions from NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 15 – Mensuration
Q.1. In a stack, there are 5 books each of thickness 20mm and 5 paper sheets each of thickness 0.016 mm. What is the total thickness of the stack?Â
SolutionÂ
Thickness of 5 books = 5 × 20 = 100 mmÂ
Thickness of 5 paper sheets = 5 × 0.016 = 0.080 mmÂ
Total thickness of stack = 100 + 0.080 = 100.08 mmÂ
= 1.0008 × 102Â
Q.2. A plastic box 1.5 m long, 1.25 m wide and 65 cm deep is to be made. It is opened at the top. Ignoring the thickness of the plastic sheet,Â
(i) determine the area of the sheetÂ
(ii) the cost of the sheet for it, if a sheet measuring 1 m2 costs Rs.20.Â
SolutionÂ
= [2 × 1.5 × 0.65 + 2 × 1.25 × 0.65 + 1.5 × 1.25] m2Â
= (1.95 + 1.625 + 1.875)m2 = 5.45 m2Â
- ii) Cost of sheet per m2 area = Rs. 20Â
Cost of sheet of 5.45m2 area = Rs. 5.45 × 20Â
= Rs. 109Â
