Solved Questions For You:

Question 1. What happens when dilute hydrochloric acid is added to iron filings?

A. Hydrogen gas and iron chloride are produced
B. Chlorine gas and iron hydroxide are produced
C. No reaction takes place
D. Iron salt and water are produced

Answer: When dilute  is added to iron fillings the reaction proceeds as:

In the reaction hydrogen gas and iron chloride are produced.

Question 2. What is a balanced chemical equation? Why should chemical equations be balanced?

Answer: A balanced chemical reaction is an equation that have equal numbers of each type of atom on both sides of the arrow.

A chemical equation is a written symbolic representation of a chemical reaction. The reactant chemical(s) are given on the left-hand side and the product chemical(s) on the right-hand side. The law of conservation of mass states that no atoms can be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction, so the number of atoms that are present in the reactants has to balance the number of atoms that are present in the products.
Question 3. Why is respiration considered an exothermic reaction? Explain.
Answer: Respiration is a burning process of food in body to produce energy. Respiration is considered as an exothermic reaction because, in respiration process, oxidation of glucose takes place which produces a large amount of heat energy which stored in the form of ATP. This is shown in following chemical equation
 (ATP)
Question 4. Why do we apply paint on iron articles?

Answer: Paint is applied to the iron articles to prevent them from corrosion by rust. Rust is an iron oxide, usually red oxide formed by the redox reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture.
