Integers

Suppose you take a jar and add 5 chocolates into the jar. It is represented by a positive value +5. Now remove 5 chocolates from a jar so this is represented by a negative value -5.  But can you remove half of or a third of chocolate? NO!  So here the integer always represent the number of chocolates added or taken. Let us study this in detail.

Question: Can a negative number be integers?

Answer:  Integers are set of whole numbers and their opposites. Moreover, number (whole number) greater than zero are known as positive integers. On the other hand, numbers less than zero are known as negative integers. In addition, zero is an integer that is neither positive nor negative.

Question: Can decimal be an integer?

Answer: We can express any number in decimal, but those number that we can express as a decimal are not integers. Furthermore, if all the digits after the decimal point are zeroes, the number is an integer. On the other hand, if the numbers after the decimal are not-zeros then the number is not an integer.

Question: Is square root an integer?

Answer: Square root of a positive integer is either a positive integer or an irrational number. However, it will never be a non-integral rational number, since a number can have square divisors but not itself be a square.

Question: How to know that square root is a rational or irrational number?

Answer: If the square root is not perfect square then it can be considered as an irrational number. But, if it is a perfect square then it can be considered as a rational number.
