Furthermore, this earthquake results from the release of energy in the Lithosphere layer. Consequently, this creates seismic waves. Moreover, earthquakes differ in size and magnitude. There are some earthquakes that are so weak that no one can feel them. In contrast, some earthquakes are so violent that they can cause widespread destruction and loss of human life. Also, the seismic activity of an area refers to the type, frequency, and size of earthquakes that can be experienced for a certain period of time. When an earthquake comes, it shakes, displaces, or disrupts the ground.

The epicenter happens to be a point on the surface that is directly above the point where an earthquake originates. Most probably, it is the point where the maximum damage is likely to occur. In case the epicenter is offshore, then a sufficient displacement of the Earth’s surface can take place which can give rise to the tsunami. Furthermore, earthquakes can also cause landslides and volcanic activity. The measurement of an earthquake takes place on a Richter scale. Also, a seismometer is able to detect the vibrations that result from an earthquake. It certainly plots the vibrations on a seismograph. A Richter scale shows the magnitude or strength of an earthquake. Most noteworthy, earthquakes whose measurement reaches 7 or 8 on the Richter scale are devastating.
