CBSE Class 6 Maths Chapter 9 – Data Handling NCERT Solutions
Data handling introduces the students to the very basic concepts of statistics. It teaches them the meaning of data, records and information and more importantly the correct classification of data. Students are also introduced to the types of data. The chapter also teaches the tabular representation of data and its proper classification. We then learn about the pictographic representation of data, i.e. bar graphs, pie charts, line diagrams, etc. As you can see, the chapter covers some very important and informative subtopics. 1 – Introduction to Data
This subtopic introduces the students to the whole concept of data. Data is not just numbers, but a combination of numbers that provides some relevant information about the subject. Then we will learn about the effective recording of data. Simple class activities can be performed so students can learn how to record data efficiently. And the final step is the organization of data. Students will learn about the tabular organization of data, tally marks and other methods of properly organizing data.
2 – Pictographs
A pictograph is a unique way of representing data using pictures. Here symbols are used to represent the frequency of data. Students will learn how to read or interpret a pictograph. Then they will also learn how t properly make their own pictographs by analyzing the data, picking a symbol, making a key, etc.
3 – Bar Graphs
Bar graphs are on the most important tools in statistics. They are also a pictographic representation of the frequency of data. Students are introduced to both vertical and horizontal bar graphs. They will first learn how to read and interpret a bar graph by observing both the X-axis and Y-axis of the graph. Then the subtopic moves on to the drawing of a bar graph. The student must learn step-by-step how to draw a bar graph from the data provided.
