NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Biology Chapter 9

This chapter is essential in the field of medicine. This is because; there is significant use of Biomolecules in medicines. Above all, this chapter is useful for biology, biotechnology, chemistry, etc. Furthermore, it is particularly important for scientific researches.

Below is a brief explanation of the sub-units of chapter 9

9.1 How to Analyse Chemical Composition? – Chemical composition refers to the arrangement and ratio of atoms in molecules. Furthermore, this relates to chemical substances.

9.2 Primary and Secondary Metabolites – Metabolites are certainly of two types. Primary metabolites are categories of compounds in animal tissues. Furthermore, primary metabolites include sugars, amino acids, fats and oils, nitrogen bases, etc. In contrast, secondary metabolites exist in plant, fungal, and microbial cells. Secondary metabolites include flavonoids, rubber, essential oils, antibiotics, etc.

9.3 Biomacromolecules – This refers to molecules which are in the acid-insoluble fraction.

9.4 Proteins – These refer to linear chains of amino acids. Also, they are linked by peptide bonds.

9.5 Polysaccharides – they are simply long chains of sugars. Furthermore, they are another class of macromolecules.

9.6 Nucleic Acids – It refers to another type of macromolecule. Above all, it comprises the true macromolecule fraction of any living cell or tissue.

9.7 Structure of Proteins – There are essentially four types of structure of proteins. Most noteworthy, these are primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary.

9.8 Nature of Bond Linking Monomers in a Polymer – This part shows two types of nature of bonds. They are peptide bond and glycosidic bond.

9.9 Dynamic State of Body Constituents-Concept of Metabolism – Biomolecules have a turn over attribute. This means they change into other biomolecules on a constant basis. Furthermore, they are also made from other biomolecules. Therefore, these chemical reactions are metabolism.

9.10 Metabolic Basis for Living – Metabolic pathways are of two types. Most noteworthy, these are anabolic and catabolic pathways.

9.11 The Living State – Living state refers to a non-equilibrium steady-state. Also, this state is able to perform work.

9.12 Enzymes – Almost all the enzymes are proteins. Furthermore, enzymes have primary, secondary, and tertiary structures. Most noteworthy, enzymes catalyze reactions at a high rate.
