Introduction
In this chapter, the students will come to know about the basic use of organic chemistry and its various elements in every sphere of life. Along with discussing the basic elements of Organic Chemistry, the chapter will look at the concepts like nucleophiles and electrophiles.
1.1: Tetravalence of Carbon
In the very beginning, the chapter talks about the shapes of carbon compounds. The very knowledge of fundamental concepts of molecular structure or shapes will help students in understanding and predicting the properties of organic compounds.
1.2: Classification of Organic Compounds
In this concept, the chapter classifies the organic compounds. It is classified into Open Chain Compounds, Aromatic Compounds, Benzenoid Aromatic Compounds, homologous series, etc.
1.3: Isomerism
The concept of the existence of 2 or more compounds possessing similar molecular formula but different properties is called isomerism. All such compounds are ‘isomers’. It is further classified into Structural Isomerism and Stereoisomerism.
1.4: Nucleophiles and Electrophiles
Firstly, a reagent which brings an electron pair is called a nucleophile. In other words, nucleus looking for and the reaction is then known as ‘nucleophilic’. However, a reagent which removes an electron pair is known as ‘electrophile’ In other terms, an electron seeking and the reaction is known as ‘electrophilic’.
1.5: Resonance Effect
In this topic, you will come to know that ‘Resonance effect’ is stated as ‘the polarity produced in a molecule through the interaction of two pie-bonds or between a pie-bond and lone group of electrons available on an adjacent atom’.
