NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Physics Chapter 14
NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Physics Chapter 14 Oscillations help students to understand this fundamental chapter of Physics. The study of oscillatory motion is very interesting for students in physics. Oscillations and Resonance both are the most interesting topics. Students will get to know about periodic motion and Simple harmonic motion, and some other related concepts from this chapter.
Let us discuss the sub-topics in detail.
14.1: Introduction:
The study of oscillatory motion is very important to physics. Its concepts are used for the understanding of many physical phenomena.
14.2: Periodic and oscillatory motions:
A motion which is repeating itself at regular intervals of time is called periodic motion. Every oscillatory motion is periodic also.
14.2.1: Period and frequency:
The period is the smallest interval of time after which the motion is repeated. The reciprocal of the time period gives the number of repetitions per unit time. This quantity is called frequency.
14.2.2: Displacement:
It refers to change with respect to time of any physical property under consideration.
14.3: Simple harmonic motion:
Simple harmonic motion means the periodic motion is a sinusoidal function of time. Particle vibrating back and forth about the origin has simple harmonic motion.
14.4: Simple harmonic motion and uniform circular motion:
Simple harmonic motion is the uniform circular motion on the diameter of the circle.
14.5: Velocity and acceleration in simple harmonic motion:
It expresses the instantaneous velocity of a particle in simple harmonic motion. Acceleration is proportional to the displacement towards the mean position.
14.6: Force law for the simple harmonic motion:
Force acting on the mass is always proportional to the displacement, towards the mean position. The student will learn to derive its equation also.
14.7: Energy in simple harmonic motion:
A particle executing simple harmonic motion has both kinetic and potential energies.
14.8: Some systems executing simple harmonic motion:
The student will learn about some examples of simple harmonic motion.
14.8.1: Oscillations due to a spring:
Hooks’ law will help to understand simple harmonic motion due to a string.
14.8.2: The Simple Pendulum:
It is a very suitable and popular example of Simple harmonic motion. The student will study it here.
14.9: Damped simple harmonic motion:
In damped oscillations, the energy of the system is continuously dissipated with progress.
14.10: Forced oscillations and resonance:
Many examples of forced oscillations will help students to understand this topic.
