NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Maths Chapter 7Â
NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Maths Chapter 7 Permutations and Combinations will guide students to understand this interesting topic. This chapter of Class 11 maths will enable the students to understand the concept of counting and related terms. The student will study the Fundamental principle of counting, Factorial (n!). Permutations and combinations. Also, they will learn the derivation of Formulae for nPr and nCr.
Let us discuss the sub-topics in detail.
7.1 Introduction
The student will learn some basic counting techniques which will enable us to answer. The student will examine a principle which is most fundamental to the learning of these techniques.
7.2 Fundamental Principle of Counting
This is a very basic principle. It states that, if an event can occur in p different ways, following which another event can occur in q different ways, then the total number of occurrence of the events in the given order is p × q.
7.3 Permutations
The student will learn the methods for some given objects to arrange in various possible orders and arrangements. It is an arrangement in a definite order of a number of objects taken some or all at a time.
7.3.1 Permutations when all the objects are distinct
The number of permutations of n different things when r is taken at a time without repetition then it is denoted by nPr.
7.3.2 Factorial notation
This notation is very much important here. The n! represents the product of first n natural numbers, means the product of 1 × 2 × 3 × . . . × (n – 1) × n is denoted as n!.
7.3.3 Derivation of the formula for nPr
A permutation is counting the number of ways in which some or all objects at a time are arranged. The student will learn the derivation and application of the popular formula for nPr.
7.3.4 Permutations when all the objects are not distinct objects
Sometimes permutation may involve some similar objects. The student will learn in this topic to find permutations of such cases. Many real-life examples will clear the concepts of students.
7.4 Combinations
It is another interesting topic. It is based on a selection of objects and making a group without considering their mutual ordering. Here, each selection is called a combination. In a combination of objects, the order is not important.
