It also describes the role of consumer organizations and NGOs in protecting consumers’ interests.

A consumer is said to be a king in the market economy. In today’s competitive world with an attempt to increase their sales and market share, manufacturers and service providers are engaging in unscrupulous, exploitative and unfair trade practices like adulteration, defective and unsafe products, false and misleading advertising, hoarding, black marketing, etc. Because of this consumers suffer from bad health due to adulterated food products. They also feel cheated because of misleading advertisements or the sale of spurious products. Also, sometimes they have to pay a higher price when sellers engage in overpricing, hoarding or black-marketing, etc. Therefore, there is a need for providing adequate protection to consumers against such practices of the sellers.
