Diversity in Living Organisms Class 9 Revision Notes
This article deals with diversity in living organisms class 9 notes. There is certainly a multitude of life-forms that surround us. Each organism is unique and differs more and less from the other. For example, consider the case of two friends. On inspection, one may notice differences of height, facial features, hand-span, skin color, etc. between the two friends. However, when we compare one of the friends with a monkey, then one would say that both friends have a lot in common. Furthermore, when we bring in a goat into the comparison, then the monkey would appear to share a lot in common with the human. This shows the importance of classification.
Classification helps in understanding the diversity of numerous life forms. Moreover, there are three main characteristics that experts consider in classifying organisms. First of all, whether the organisms comprise prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. Another characteristic is whether cells exist singly or as multi-cellular. Finally, whether cells have cell-wall and prepare food on their own. Furthermore, the division of organisms on this basis of main characteristics takes place into five kingdoms. Most noteworthy, the five kingdoms are Fungi, Monera, Protista, Plantae, and Animalia.
