Human Rights Day Speech

Human Rights Day is on the 10th of December every year. Moreover, on the same day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the year 1948. The proper inception of the Human Rights Day dates from 1950. However, this was after the Assembly approved the resolution 423 (V). Further, they passed the revolution by inviting all the States and interested organizations. Later, the date of 10 December of every year was declared as Human Rights Day.

We can easily prove the popularity of this day by a simple fact. In fact, the commemorative Human Rights Day stamp received about 2,00,000 orders in advance. It was issued by the United Nations Postal Administration in the year 1952.

Further, a 1963 postage stamp from the Soviet Union, celebrating the 15th year anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Moreover, a 1998 postage stamp from Germany, remembering the 50th year anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

There were 48 states in favour and 8 abstentions during the adoption of the declaration by the General Assembly. Moreover, it was announced as a “common standard of achievement for all the population and all the nations”.

In the direction of this announcement, the individuals and the societies should “strive by progressive procedures, national and international, to secure their worldwide and effective recognition and observance”.

Thus, the measure was acknowledged by both the advocates and critics alike. It was said as “being more declarative than the legislative, more suggestive than the binding”.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The declaration was drafted by representatives of diverse legal and cultural backgrounds from all areas of the world. Moreover, the Declaration sets out worldwide and global values and a common standard for the achievement for all peoples and all the countries. It establishes the equal dignity and worth of each and every human.

Thanks to the Declaration, and the commitments of the State to its principles. Further, the dignity of millions of people has been lifted up and the foundation for a more just world has been laid. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers and motivates all of us. Therefore, the principles put in the Declaration are as relevant today as they were in the year 1948.

Human Rights in India

The National Human Rights Commission is an expression of India’s concern to protect and promote human rights in the nation. It came into being in the month of October in the year 1993. Its Statute is kept in the Protection of the Human Rights Act (PHRA), in 1993 as amended vide the Protection of the Human Rights (Amendment) Act, in 2006.

The constitution of NHRC is in conformity with the Principles of Paris. The NHRC is a recommendatory body as per the motive and aim of the Protection of the Human Rights Act passed by the Parliament. This is similar to most of the human rights institutions in the whole world.

Apart from looking into the objections and complaints of human rights violations, the functions of the commission also comprise reviewing the safeguards. The safeguards provided under the Constitution or any Law, make recommendations for operative implementation of the International Conventions or Covenants.

Moreover, undertake research and organize the seminars and discussion and debate events and programs on the issue of human rights.

The human rights day basically plays a role in supporting, celebrating, and motivating the rights of a human being. It is a global event that everyone celebrates and enjoys their rights. The human rights day makes people and our new and upcoming generation aware of the rights that a human being has.
