Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second honourable Prime Minister of India after the independence of the country. He took an oath after the sudden death of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of our Nation. Relatively, he was new to the high office, he led the country positively through the India-Pakistan War in the year 1965. And that was a hugely successful event for the country. Early Life and Education of Lal Bahadur Shastri

Lal Bahadur Shastri took birth on October 2 in the year 1904, to Smt. Ramdulari Devi and Sharada Prasad Srivastava, in Mughalsarai, United Provinces that is now ‘Uttar Pradesh’. Lal Bahadur Shastri and Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation have their birthdays on the same date on 2nd October.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was against the usual caste system in our country. Therefore, he made a decision to drop his surname and not to use it anywhere officially. He got the title “Shastri” after the completion of his graduation at the Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1925. The title “Shastri” means a “scholar” or a person that is skilful in the “Holy Scriptures”.

Lal Bahadur Shastri’s father Shri Sharada Prasad was a school teacher by profession. His father passed away when Lal Bahadur Shastri was 2 years old. His mother Smt Ramdulari Devi took him and his 2 sisters to the home of his maternal grandfather.

Grandfather’s name was HazariLal. Lal Bahadur Shastri developed qualities like boldness, love of adventure, patience, self-control, courtesy, and selflessness in his early childhood.

As the Prime Minister of India

Jawaharlal Nehru was succeeded by a Lal Bahadur Shastri on 9 June in the year 1964. Shastri arose as the consensus contender after the sudden expiry of Jawaharlal Nehru. Even though there were many other influential leaders within the ranks of the Congress.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was a follower of Nehruvian socialism. Moreover, he displayed excellent cool under terrible and hard situations. Lal Bahadur Shastri solved various elementary problems like shortage of food, unemployment, poverty, and many other major problems in the country.

However, to overcome the acute food shortage in the country, Lal Bahadur Shastri directed the experts to create a long-term strategy for the same. This was the establishment of the very famous “Green Revolution” in the country.

After the Chinese aggression held in the year 1962, India tackled another aggression from Pakistan in the year 1965 during Lal Bahadur Shastri’s tenure. Lal Bahadur Shastri showing his courage, made it very clear that India will not sit and watch like a loser.

While permitting and providing liberty to the Security Forces of the nation to retaliate, he said, “Force will be met with force”. The India-Pakistan war ended on 23 September in the year 1965 after the United Nations approved a resolution asking for a ceasefire.
