Ethanol Formula


Ethanol is a chemical compound that is present in a lot of things we use daily, ranging from perfumes to alcoholic beverages. In this article, we will learn more about the ethanol formula and uses of ethanol. The chemical formula of ethanol: It is two carbon alcohol. If the molecular formula writes as CH3CH2OH, it is clear to see how the molecules form. The methyl group (CH3) carbon adds to the methylene group (CH2) carbon, which joins to the oxygen of the hydroxyl group (OH). The methyl and methylene group form an ethyl group commonly shows as Et in organic chemistry. This is why the structure can of ethanol to write as EtOH.

Ethanol is such a simple chemical compound, but it has several uses. It is used in households, antiseptics cleaning products, and even varnishes.

Ethanol is the alcohol that is found in our alcoholic beverages like vodka, rum, beer, whiskey, and brandy. In alcoholic beverages, the ethanol generates from the process of fermentation, which is the chemical breakdown of sugar by yeast.

We usually see hand sanitizer dispensers in public restrooms. During the flu season, we also do carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer in our bags. Ethanol is effective in eliminates organisms like bacteria, fungi, and viruses, so it is no surprise that another common use of ethanol is that it is an element in hand sanitizer gels. It also applies to medical wipes and at clinics and hospitals.

Some products have in common is that the solvent use ethanol. Because it dissolves quickly with water and many other organic compounds, ethanol makes an absolute solvent for these products. It is a popular solvent in personal care products, like deodorants, hairsprays, and astringents. It also finds in food additives, like food coloring and flavoring. Varnish, lacquers, and Paints also have ethanol as one of their components.
