CBSE Class 11 Chemistry Chapter 9 – Hydrogen Class 11 Notes

Hydrogen Class 11 Revision Notes

Hydrogen Class 11 Notes – Firstly, hydrogen is the lightest atom that has only one electron. Also, the loss of this electron results in an elementary particle, the proton. Moreover, this property is a unique characteristic of hydrogen. Furthermore, hydrogen has three isotopes namely: protium, deuterium, and tritium. Among these three isotopes, the only tritium is radioactive. Besides, it resembles both alkali metals and halogens. Most noteworthy, due to its unique properties it has occupied a separate position in the periodic table. Besides, in its free state, it can’t be found in the earth’s atmosphere.

On industrial scale prepares dihydrogen by the water-gas shift reaction from petrochemicals. Moreover, the H-H bond of dissociation enthalpy of dihydrogen is the highest for a single bond between two atoms of any element. Furthermore, this property is used in a hydrogen torch which is ideal for welding. In addition, dihydrogen’s reducing reaction leads to the formation of water, ammonia, hydrogen halides, methanol, etc. Besides, the heavy water is another important compound which forms by the electrolytic enrichment of normal water.
