The p- Block Elements Class 11 Revision Notes
This article certainly deals with the p-block elements class 11 notes. First of all, the p-block elements are those in which the last electron enters the outermost p orbital. Furthermore, the number of p orbitals is three. So, there can be an accommodation of a maximum number of 6 electrons in a set of p–block elements. Most noteworthy, there exist six groups of p–block elements in the periodic table. Also, their numbering is from 13 to 18. Moreover, nitrogen, carbon, boron, fluorine, helium, and oxygen head the groups. Nevertheless, the electronic configuration, with the exception of helium, of their valence shell is ns2 np1-6. Also, the electronic configuration’s inner core may differ. The difference in the inner core of elements certainly impacts the physical and chemical properties.
A unique aspect of the p-Block of the periodic table is that it certainly has all the types of elements. Moreover, these include metals, metalloids, and non-metals. Furthermore, this group has an oxidation state. In addition, these elements show various other oxidation states. Consequently, they differ from the total number of valence electrons by a unit of two. The oxidation state of the group certainly happens to be the most stable for the lighter elements of the group. Hence, experts make the most use of the oxidation state for these lighter elements.
