States of Matter Class 11 Revision Notes
States of Matter Class 11 Notes – The chapter explains that intermolecular forces operate between the particles of matter. Moreover, these forces differ from pure electrostatic forces that exist between two oppositely charged ions. Furthermore, they do not include forces that hold atoms of a covalent molecule. In addition, intermolecular interactions determine the state of matter. Also, the chemical properties of a substance do not change with the change in state. But, the reactivity depends upon the physical state. Besides, Boyle’s Law and Charles’ law is also explained in the chapter.
Most noteworthy, forces of interaction between gas molecules are negligible and are almost independent of their chemical nature. Also, there is an equation for the state for an ideal gas. Furthermore, at high pressure and low temperature, the intermolecular forces start operating strongly between the molecules of gases. Moreover, this happens because they come close to each other. In addition, under suitable conditions like temperature and pressure gases can be liquified.
